Support Supernatural Through Charity...

You all more than know by now how big of a fan of Supernatural I am, as well as how interested I am in doing charity work, particularly when it pertains to underfunded and under publicized causes and even more so when those causes deal with children or animals. Well, 2010 is certainly going to be my year then because a very special fan campaign, "Support Supernatural" has set a lofty fundraising goal for a charity called "A Dog's Life Rescue."

In late 2009, it was announced that Supernatural star Jared Padalecki endorses the charity, which works to find homes for hundreds if not thousands of abused, neglected, or stray animals across Los Angeles. They host adoption events and spread awareness about the importance of spaying, neutering, and providing care for homeless animals. Ever since the announcement went public, the girls of "Support Supernatural" have worked hard through Facebook, Twitter, and newsletter campaigns to raise money from the fans. To date they have raised $17,000 but they “are confident that 2010 will be our most successful year yet. Our goal continues to be to not only to raise money for animals in need, but also to garner an increase in publicity and ratings for Supernatural,” said Heather Vitas, the group's co-founder.

And this year they don't have to do it alone! Creation Entertainment, which brings us the fabulous "Salute to Supernatural" conventions have teamed up with "Support Supernatural" to provide extra incentive for fans of the show, specifically, to donate. Each month, anyone who donates more than $10 will be automatically entered to win a Supernatural merchandise/memorabilia prize that Creation Entertainment is so generously providing. This month's stakes? A collection of autographed photos entitled "The Handsome Hunks of Supernatural!"

"Support Supernatural" is hoping that their partnership with Creation Entertainment will bring fans back to the donation site repeatedly throughout the year, and they also plan to come out to LA and get involved directly with the charity (I hope to snag an exclusive with them then to report on their progress to date). The goal for their December 31 2010 deadline is $30,000 so go forth and donate here (and often)!
