'Game of Thrones' Giveaway...

Calling all fantasy genre fans! HBO has graciously donated a copy of George R.R. Martin's "Game of Thrones" as well as a (size large) promotional tee-shirt to get people excited about their new program. And to pay it forward, I am donating it to one of you!

(The tee-shirt will arrive still in shrinkwrap, unlike in the image above)

This is the perfect thing to get you into the spring!

For those who may be unfamiliar, "Game of Thrones" is the first book in a fantasy series by esteemed author George R.R. Martin and was published in 1996. Martin collaborated with HBO on this televised version, which he admitted he never anticipated happening since his stories are so vast and that can be an expensive venture. The story focuses on a handful of noble families all fighting for control of the "Iron Throne" in order to rule their kingdom.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below OR Tweet me with the reason you are most excited for the April 17th premiere of HBO's Game of Thrones. The winner will be drawn and notified this time next week, Sunday, January 16th 2011 at noon PT and the prize will be sent out the same week so you will have ample time to read the tale before the premiere.

I could really use a new copy since my original is starting to fall apart. I read it about seven times myself before passing it around amongst my friends to get them excited as well. The book did the job but it had to pay a heavy toll.
HBO owe me a new one :P

I'm most excited to see my favorite characters come to life in an exciting and heart stopping story. I can't wait to see the direwolves, Ned, Jon, Arya, Varys, Syrio, Kings Landing, Tyrion, Bronn, the Dorthraki Sea, Dany, Drogo, and dragons! This show will be epic!!

I have been lending my copy of Game of Thrones out to friends for weeks now.. so far I've gotten six people to start reading the books (and two people to buy the entire series). Imagine what I could do with TWO circulating copies! :DD

In addition, I just love these books so much. They make my heart race and my stomach twist in all the best ways.

I would love another copy. I've loaned two copies out in recent years that weren't returned. No hard feelings about it. I only asked that they pay it forward and let others experience Westeros and share in our silent joys and pains!

Why excited...? I guess I want to get to know this story once more, and re-reading isn't enough, because that is what I already know... the show will let me get to know this wonderful story once more, a bit differently. And I hope my friends who haven't yet read the book will fall in love with "Game of Thrones" (as I already have) thanks to this series. I can't persuade some of them to read it, and I love to share what I love! :)

I've been meaning to read Game of Thrones for a least a year now but it keeps languishing on my to-read list. But with the show coming on it's finally motivating me to get my butt in gear and read the book. So...having the book would be awesome. Also HBO shows are always awesome, even when they feature questionable accents (I'm look at you True Blood). And the scenery is going to beautiful.

I am a new fan of this series but am completely obsessed already! I have copies of all the other titles in this series, but I took Game of Thrones out of my library. It's the only book I'm missing! I would love a copy to complete my collection!

My copy is quite worn after a lot of traveling and passing around. I'm really excited for the premiere, I can't wait for one of my favorite series to finally come to life and see my favorite characters in action.

I can't pick just one reason, but I first heard about the series coming to HBO when I needed to have some good news, and have been faithfully waiting ever since. I've always been a little disappointed with any book-TV show/movie adaption of my favorites ("Time Traveler's Wife," anyone? *Shudder*) but I know GoT is going to be different and beyond amazing. I've been following it every step of the way, and it's simply going to be incredible to see it actually come to life on the screen.

Thank you for this contest! ^_^

My girlfriend would be really happy if I won this for her, as she loves the series, and anything keeping me in her good graces is helpful. Also, I quite like the series and am looking forward to the show as well.

The casting on this is pretty great on paper. Peter Dinklage as Tyrion should have been the obvious idea, but that they have him, along with Sean Bean as Ned, gives me a lot of confidence that the series will be very muchin keeping with the books.

I'm most excited to see how the Wall is depicted. It'll be hard to match the scope of my imagination.

If you sent me some #GameofThrones swag, I'd wear it at work, promoting the show to my fellow Pixarians.

I keep giving my copies away. I cannot WAIT for the show to start. I am annoying my family to death with it! LOL

I really need this shirt. For reasons still unknown, I have extremely acidic urine. (My doctors say it is due to diet but I am not going to give up twinkies and ho hos god dammit). Normally, this alone wouldn't be a problem (except for that drunken night last August, sorry about your couch cushion Larry), but I also have poor bladder control stemming from a childhood accident involving a semi-nude grandparent and a melon baller.

The point is, my trickle eats through my clothes constantly. My current employment as a rapid meat preparation engineer isn't covering, and I'd rather die than take welfare from those communist new age hippies.

Also, black seems to be most resistant to the urine. It's also very slimming.

Thank you.

I have waited a very long time for this series to develop, to see it visualized is a dream come true.
And thats why I would love the shirt and book.
Though I think Paul's answer is the cleverest.

I'm delighted to see George R. R. Martin get the recognition he deserves as a writer, and I'm very excited to see a wise, mature production that's faithful to character-centered development.
I want to see Arya metamorphose slowly into an assassin. I want to see Jon Snow face his inner demons and weaknesses, and become the Stark he was meant to be. I want to find out if Brienne is coming back as a zombie! (oh wait, would that be in Dance of Dragons?) I love Brienne, and I desperately hope she is well cast, with an actress who looks strong, athletic, and isn't drop-dead gorgeous (that should just be Renly.)
Personally, I'm sick of overly good looking actors in roles that for unsuitable for the story .. but I'll stop ranting in your comment space.

I'd love a T-shirt or a Game of Thrones book; I listened to the Audible version.

APRIL 17 CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH! I'm excited to see the story and characters come to life! Having the fantastic Lena Headey play the role of Cersei is definitely a huge PLUS!!!

It's hard to pick just one reason, but seeing how they depict all of my favorite characters is going to be amazing. It's been such a long wait, it's hard to believe it's almost here!

Why pick me? Game of Thrones on HBO may be the only way to get my GRRM fix before A Dance with Dragons comes out.

Ok, lol @ Christopher. While my desire for this prize is not as dramatic as replacing a urine-soaked wardrobe, winning would help bolster my on-going campaign to get all my friends reading this series before it premiers in April. Especially since, like so many other applicants, I keep loaning out my copies. Wish there was a hard-back collector's edition.

Easy! I'll wear the T-shirt for everyone to see, in the freezing cold of Norway (where I live).

To the first person who asks me "Why aren't you wearing more clothes?", I'll answer;
"You sweet summer child... Read this, and you too shall see why," handing them the book.
