"Mid-Season Preview: CBS' NYC 22"

The newest cop drama on CBS, NYC 22, comes in quietly and unassumingly. It slips onto their schedule this spring as if they are hoping that their regular viewers would just see men and women in blue and assume it's a show they've seen before and thus will tune into again, rather than celebrating the newness for the network. The truth is, NYC 22 is not new in the grand scheme of storytelling: it focuses on rookie cops just trying to blend into the force on their first few days on foot patrol, which is fitting for the lack of fanfare surrounding its premiere. However, it is a new look for the network; NYC 22 is more closely akin to Southland than any of the NCISes or CSIs that came before it.
