We think it’s official: we are too cynical for today’s television. When the documentary Catfish was first making waves in film festivals and then limited release, we were intrigued not by the premise (that one guy fell in love with some random girl he met online and then went to meet her) but by the psychology behind it. There was something so inherently trusting, and therefore so innocent, about Nev that even when the red flags went up for his friends they were not up for him. Maybe it’s a good thing that nothing so terrible happened to him in his childhood to give him trust issues, but didn’t his parents teach him about caution? ... [MORE]
