NBC certainly seems to be hanging their hopes of future comedy stars on former Book of Mormon Broadway players. Andrew Rannells is both inspiring belly laughs and breaking hearts in The New Normal, and now Josh Gad should be following suit in 1600 Penn. Television is a much more personal medium than theater, though. Aside from coming into audience’s homes every week, the actors also live in the close-up, rather than having to make grand, sweeping gestures to play to the balcony. And unfortunately for Gad, 1600 Penn’s Skip is not the way to perfect an indoor voice, let alone a non-caricature though still immature young man with a very important purpose... [MORE
